How it is calculated
Full-time: 5.6 × Days worked per week (capped at 28 days); Irregular hours: 12.07% × Total hours worked
Worked example: Full-Time Employee Working 5 Days a Week at £12.50/hr
5 days worked per week, standard 7.5 hours per day, statutory 5.6 weeks entitlement.
- Calculate statutory days: 5 days/week × 5.6 weeks = 28 days total annual leave (the statutory UK cap).
- Determine daily pay: 7.5 hours × £12.50 = £93.75 per day.
- Calculate annual statutory holiday pay: 28 days × £93.75 = £2,625.00 total holiday entitlement value.
28 days annual leave entitlement valued at £2,625.00.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 12.07% holiday pay formula for irregular workers?
5.6 weeks holiday divided by 46.4 working weeks in a year equals 12.07%. Irregular and part-year workers accrue holiday hours at 12.07% of the total hours worked.
Can untaken statutory leave be paid out instead of taken?
No. UK law prohibits employers from paying "payment in lieu" of statutory annual leave, except when employment is being terminated.
How much holiday does a part-time worker get?
Statutory entitlement is 5.6 multiplied by the days worked per week, capped at 28 days. A three-day week therefore gives 16.8 days, while a five-day week gives the full 28 days.
Are bank holidays extra on top of the 28 days?
Not automatically. Employers can include bank holidays as part of the statutory 28-day entitlement unless the contract explicitly grants them on top, and the calculator asks you to confirm which arrangement your employer uses.
How do I enter irregular or zero-hours work?
Select the irregular-hours pattern and enter the total hours worked in the period in the days-or-hours field. Holiday then accrues at 12.07% of those hours, rather than from a fixed number of days per week.
How is the daily pay figure worked out?
Daily pay is hours per day multiplied by the hourly rate. In the worked example, a standard 7.5-hour day at 12.50 pounds gives 93.75 pounds per day, and 28 days at that rate give 2,625 pounds of annual holiday value.
