How CalcFree is built

CalcFree isn’t a stack of articles with a few widgets bolted on. It’s a small, deliberately engineered platform, and this page explains how it works under the hood — for anyone curious about the tooling, and for transparency about how the calculators are kept accurate.

Performance

The site is built as static pages, so there’s no server rendering on each visit and no heavy framework shipped to your browser. Pages are mostly HTML and CSS; JavaScript is added only where it earns its place — the calculators themselves and the search box. Visuals are lightweight, compressed images, and ad slots reserve their space so the layout doesn’t jump around as the page loads.

Content management

All the content — tools, guides, categories, the homepage — is managed through a content management system, so wording, examples, FAQs and metadata can be updated without touching code. The figures behind the calculators (tax bands, thresholds, prices) live in separate, editable data files, which is what lets a rate be updated for a new tax year without changing the maths.

The calculator framework

Every calculator shares one framework. The calculation logic is written and tested independently of the rates it uses, and each tool declares its inputs, assumptions, sources and FAQs in a consistent structure. That’s why the tools feel consistent and why new ones can be added without reinventing the wheel — and it’s the same reason every tool can show its working, state what it assumes, and cite its source.

SEO and answer engines

The site is structured so both search engines and AI answer engines can understand it: clean URLs, descriptive metadata, structured data for tools, articles and FAQs, an accurate sitemap, and internal links that connect related tools and guides. Quick answers and key takeaways are written to be genuinely useful and easy to quote.

Accessibility

Pages use proper headings and landmarks, labelled form fields, visible focus states, sufficient colour contrast, and navigation that works without JavaScript. The aim is that the tools are usable on a phone, on a laptop, with a keyboard, or with a screen reader.

Platform development

The CalcFree platform — its architecture, calculator framework, CMS setup and performance work — was engineered by Techithrive, an independent studio that builds calculator platforms, web applications, content systems and performance-focused websites. CalcFree is operated as an independent publishing project; Techithrive’s role is the engineering behind it.
